V Iberoamerican SM Prize to the trajectory books for children and adolescents

María Teresa Andruetto was born in Arroyo Cabral (Córdoba, Argentina) in 1954. She studied Arts in the National University of Córdoba.

She is present in various catalogues and in national and international selections of books for children and adolescents, a field in which she has been working for twenty five years, having been awarded the White Ravens Prize held by the Internationale Jugendbibliothek of Munich in two occasions, as well as the Premio Banco del Libro de Caracas (Caracas Book Bank Prize). She is included in the Honour Lists of the IBBY’s International Hans Christian Andersen Prize (Switzerland). Recently she was awarded the V Iberoamerican SM Prize.

She co-founded CEDILIJ (Center for the awareness and research in the field of books for children and adolescents/Córdoba, Argentina) and has taken part of numerous municipal, provincial and national plans to foster reading.

Her work for adults was awarded the Prize for Novel from the National Arts Fund and she was a finalist of the Clarín and Sent Sovi Prizes.

She has novels, short stories, poems, essays and plays for adults.

Her work has been used as a base for short movies, musical and poetical shows, theatre adaptations and other events.

I have always liked to write. Since I was a child I made up stories, created heroes who were beyond reality. They were born under the influence of the main characters in the works of Dumas, D’Amicis, Jules Verne or Zane Grey. Later, new books came and the heroes became real people in blood and flesh. Where I was born, you could not avoid reading Onetti and the great Latin American writers, such as García Márquez, Borges, Vargas Llosa, Benedetti, Bioy Casares, Lezama Lima, Rulfo, Cortázar and many others, as well as the great North American writers: Faulkner, Hemingway, Henry James…

I published my first novel not so long ago because before I had been too busy before, with a job that I really loved, since I was distributing in movie theatres all over the world the lives of other heroes, such as Indiana Jones or James Bond, but also the anonymous ones, people with dark and hard existences that one day discover that the soul weighs 21 grams or that the world will always be Babel.

A few months ago I left the direction of Universal Pictures in Spain and, although I am still very attached to the world of the cinema, I finished my second novel: Todas las huellas

Juan Ignacio Siles del Valle was born in Bolivia in 1961. He has a bachelor’s degree in Literature by the University of Chile and a doctorate in Spanish American Literature by the University of Georgia, USA. He has published three books of poetry: Con las manos vacías de mariposas muertas / With Hands Empty of Dead Butterflies (1987); Medulamor (1983); and Canción de cuna para la muerte de mi madre / Lullaby to the Death of My Mother (1985). He has worked as lecturer in Literature at the Unversity of San Andrés de la Paz. Between 1994 and 1995 he was in charge of the technical team that started the Educational Reform in Bolivia. He has a university degree in Foreign Affairs. Between 2003 and 2005 he was Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs of Bolivia. He currently works at the Latin-American General Secretariat, in Madrid.

Juan Ignacio Siles has devoted many years of his life to study the Ñacahuasu (1967) and the Teoponte (1970) guerrillas. His doctoral thesis, published under the title La guerrilla del Che y la narrativa boliviana / The Guerrilla and the Bolivian Narrative (1996) is the product of this research. He is one of the few researchers that has worked with the original manuscripts of the Diary of Che in Bolivia, and who has had access to the guerrilla archives, so carefully preserved by the Bolivian Army.

Writer, poet and playwright. She teaches creative writing to children and adults and collaborates in various newspapers and cultural magazines in Argentina and Uruguay.

She is one of the most prestigious and recognised writers in the Argentinean publishing scene.

She has declared that she writes without any discipline but lashed by moments of creativity, which she undoubtedly knows how to use to her advantage. The proof of it is her vast literary production.

She was been awarded important prizes: magazine Cosecha Ñ, 2007; Prize Mario Vargas Llosa NH for short stories, 2005; Prize Clarín, 2003; Hucha de Oro, 2002; Prize of he National Fund for the Arts, 2000; First Prize House of América for Innovative writing, 200; Juan Rulfo, 1997.

As a writer of books for children and adolescents, she was awarded the Highly Recommended Prize by ALIJA. As a playwright, she got the Prize Argentores 2005; First Prize from the National Theatre Institute and the Prize National Fund for the Arts, 2001.

Her short stories are present in numerous national and international anthologies. In the last years, a few of her plays have been performed on stage.

Aurora Venturini was born in 1922 in La Plata, Buenos Aires, Argentina. She graduated in Philosophy and Education Sciences from the National University of La Plata. She worked as advisor in the Institute of Psychology and Re-education of Minors, where she met Eva Perón, with whom she collaborated and developed a very close friendship. In 1948 she was awarded the Premio Iniciación (Initiation Prize) by Luis Borges in person for her book El solitario (The Solitaire). She studied Psychology at the University of Paris, city where she chose to live as an exile for 25 years after the Revolución Libertadora established by the Peronist Régime. In Paris she lived with Violette Leduc and became friends with Jean-Paul Sartre, Simone de Beauvoir, Albert Camus, Eugene Ionesco and Juliette Gréco. In Sicily she made the acquaintance of Salvatore Quasimodo, whom she also frequented.

She has translated and written analytical works on poets such as Isidore Ducasse, Count of Lautréamont, Francoise Villon and Arthur Rimbaud; translations for which the French Government rewarded her with the Iron Cross Medal.

En el año 2007 fue designado personalidad destacada de la cultura de Buenos Aires, por la Legislatura de la ciudad.

Entre los años 2008 y 2010 ha realizado numerosos murales, entre los que cabe destacar: Mural sobre la transición española (Centro de Cultura Contemporánea, Barcelona). Mural sobre el Bicentenario (Feria del Libro de Buenos Aires) Mural titulado “Desconcierto sinfónico “junto a los artistas Luis Felipe Noé, León Ferrari, y Adolfo Nigro. Mural sobre el agua (Exposición internacional de Zaragoza, España).

Miguel Rep  será el encargado de realizar en  Feria del Libro de Frankfurt, Alemania, un mural sobre la Literatura de su país, edición que tiene a Argentina como país invitado.

Cursó sus estudios en la Academia de Bellas Artes Augusto Bolognini y tuvo como maestros a  Ana Tarsia y  Carlos Alonso. 

Desde finales de la década de los sesenta  expone en forma individual óleos y dibujos en las más importantes galerías de arte de Argentina, México, Venezuela e Italia. Ilustra libros y realiza publicaciones en revistas de Buenos Aires, México y Nueva York. 

Entre sus instalaciones destacan “Homenaje a Carlos Gardel”(Festival de Nantes, Francia) , la exposición-performance “Confidencial”.( Festival de Teatro de Caracas, Venezuela), “Travesía” y “Nave” ( Centro Cultural Recoleta)

Casi paralelamente, a finales del sesenta inició su carrera  como diseñadora de vestuario con la que ha recorrido los más importantes teatros del mundo. Su carácter versátil e innovador le ha permitido transitar géneros y espacios diversos: teatro, ópera, ballet, comedias musicales, rock, cine y video.

Presentó sus diseños en el Grand Théâtre de Genève (Suiza), teatros Municipales de Río de Janeiro y San Pablo, Estadio Canecâo de Río de Janeiro (Brasil), Teatro Regio de Torino (Italia), Teatro Colón, Teatro San Martín, Teatro Nacional Cervantes, Estadio Luna Park de Buenos Aires y en los Festivales de Asti y Ville Vesuviane de Italia, entre otros.

Realizó el vestuario y dirigió junto a Oscar Araiz la obra teatral Boquitas pintadas de Manuel Puig.  Diseñó el vestuario de Romeo y Julieta en el Teatro Principal de Valencia y en el Teatro Municipal de Río de Janeiro, de Lady Macbeth en el Teatro Real de Madrid y en el Teatro Colón con dirección musical de M. Rostropovich. Trabajó junto a Lluis Pasqual en “Edipo XXI” para el teatro Grec de Barcelona  y en Mariana  Pineda de García Lorca para la compañía flamenca de Sara Baras representada en Sevilla y Barcelona.

Diseño el vestuario de  “Kavafis” con la dirección de  Alfredo Arias para el Centro de experimentación del Teatro Colón. Estrenó “El Barbero de Sevilla”(Teatro Real de Madrid) y “El cantor de México” en el Teatro Châtelet de Paris, ambas obras con régie de Emilio Sagi. 

En 2006 con el nombre de “Epifanía” presentó en el  Museo Nacional de Bellas Artes de  HYPERLINK “http://es.wikipedia.org/wiki/Buenos_Aires” \o “Buenos Aires” Buenos Aires  una retrospectiva de su obra.

Fue candidato por Argentina al Premio Hans Christian Andersen 2002 y 2004 y seleccionado para exposiciones internacionales de ilustración de libros para niños de Bratislava, Bologna, Sarmede y Buenos Aires. Es director de las colecciones “Libros-álbum del Eclipse” y “Pequeños del Eclipse” de Ediciones del Eclipse, Argentina. Coordinó espacios dedicados al libro ilustrado en TV y radio. Sus investigaciones en el campo de la ilustración lo han llevado a dar clases en todos los niveles de la enseñanza y a escribir artículos para revistas especializadas en varios países del mundo. Sus reflexiones están reunidas en el libro La otra lectura. Las ilustraciones en los libros para niños (Buenos Aires, Lugar Editorial/Universidad Nacional del Litoral)
